The LSAT is scored to conform to an expected norm (resembling a bell curve) to overcome the possibility that in some years the LSAT may be more difficult than in others. The test's score range is 120 to 180. The 99th LSAT score percentile represents scores above 173. The average LSAT score is 150.

Cancelling Your LSAT Score

It is important to know that every examinee has the option to cancel his score either during the test itself by completing the score-cancellation section on the LSAT answer sheet at the test center, or within six calendar days after the exam; this applies only if the canceling request is prior to receiving the score. In order to ask for a cancellation of your score you need to follow the procedure below:

The cancellation request must be submitted to LSAC in the form of a signed fax (215.968.1277), overnight letter or expedited, mailed score-cancellation form (available on LSAC's website). The request must be received by LSAC within six calendar days of the test.

Valid score-cancellation requests must include:
  • A statement that you wish to cancel your LSAT score.
  • Your name, LSAC account number, and the last four digits of your Social Security/Social Insurance number.

  • The test date and test center name and code number.

  • Your signature (unsigned cancellation requests will not be processed).

Asking for hand scoring

All tests are machine scored; if the examinee feels that the machine scoring was incorrect he can ask for a hand scoring. Hand scoring only applies to the answer sheet and does not consider the answers written in the LSAT exam book. In order to ask for a hand scoring you need to follow the procedure below:

A. The request must be made in writing, no later than 60 days after the test date.
B. Attach your LSAT score report.
C. The written request must contain your full name, LSAC account number, test date and
testing center. Make sure to include the last four digits of your Social Security/Social
    Insurance number.
D. The processing cost is $41 ($43 CDN plus $75 GST), to be paid by check or bank order.
To pay by credit card, include the account number and expiration date of your credit
    card.

If an examinee took the test twice and did not annul any of the two, law schools might consider only the higher score but might also consider the average grade of the two exams. It is important to know that law schools are exposed to all of the scored LSATs an examinee took.
