About Higher Education Admissions Tests

Colleges and universities often consider standardized test scores in undergraduate and postgraduate admissions. These tests help graduate schools determine which candidates are most suitable for their respective academic programs. Two main kinds of tests are used: Achievement Tests and Aptitude Tests. An Achievement Test measures specific knowledge and sills that are taught in school. An aptitude test measures verbal, mathematical, and spatial skills with "puzzle" questions that are likely different from questions you've seen on tests at school.

About the ATI TEAS

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is a multiple choice achievement test taken by students applying to nursing schools. The test is administered by ATI testing, and its main purpose is to assess the ability of potential students to adjust to a nursing program. The TEAS assesses candidates’ abilities in the areas of reading, English language, math, and science skills. A strong TEAS score is the first step to a fulfilling and financially rewarding career in the nursing skills. Students often find that the reading, English language, and math sections are somewhat aligned with what they learned in high school, but the science section tests higher-level material than most high school biology classes. Check out TestPrep-Online’s TEAS Premium Pack to explore comprehensive TEAS prep materials with Test Prep-Online.

About the ACCUPLACER

The ACCUPLACER Test is used by colleges throughout the United States in order to determine a student's academic level in the beginning of their first semester. Based on these scores, administration can determine which level is best suited for each student. High scores on the ACCUPLACER can make for a more efficient college career. Generally speaking, the ACCUPLACER gauges reading, writing, and math.

About the Canadian Adult Achievement Test (CAAT)

The CAAT was created by Creative Organizational Design in order to measure the English and mathematical skill set of Canadian adults who prefer to take a test in English. Those who prefer to take a test in French may take the similar TRF test. The CAAT is a multiple-choice achievement test. Results come in the form of a detailed report on the test-taker's academic proficiency, and helps determine if the adult is capable of pursuing an academic or vocational career. The test is particularly important for adults who do not have a high school diploma. For people in this situation, passing the CAAT is the first and one of the most important steps toward college and career success.  Learn more and prepare for the Canadian Adult Achievement Test (CAAT) with TestPrep-Online.

About the Wonderlic

The Wonderlic is frequently used in order to evaluate candidates for employment and academic purposes. The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (BST) is often used for placement into entry-level positions, while the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam (SLE) and the Wonderlic General Assessment of Instructional Needs (GAIN) are often used for admissions purposes. The Wonderlic is an extremely fast-paced multiple-choice test that combines elements of an achievement test with those of an aptitude test. Preparation for the Wonderlic is especially crucial because of the fast pace. Wonderlic preparation can improve your score by making you familiar with the test and significantly reducing test anxiety. Well-prepared students who take the Wonderlic know what to expect and are able to answer the easier questions faster, leaving them more time for the more difficult questions.

About the Miller Analogies Test

The Miller Analogies Test (MAT), developed by Pearson, has been assessing high-level analytical skills and mental abilities in candidates for graduate schools for more than 50 years. Over 1,500 graduate institutions accept MAT scores, including some in Canada and other countries. The MAT is a classic example of an aptitude test: it asks you to form relationships between ideas in general vocabulary, general knowledge, humanities, social sciences, math, and non-semantic relationships (how words sound). The MAT is likely very different from the tests you've taken in school and also from tests that you've taken for undergraduate admission. The MAT exam is highly valued by graduate schools; it helps them in identifying candidates who possess the critical skills needed to succeed both in graduate school and the professional world.
