Three basic skills and aptitudes are required for mastering this field of knowledge: Memorization. Spatial skills. Abstract reasoning. Memorization We can try and break down the fields covered thorugh premed organic chemistry and thus see what memorization processes must be employed. First, a profound understadning of chemical structures, bonding between atoms and molecules and acid/base concepts. Second, mastery of organic chemistry nomencalture. Third, a complete mapping of chemical reactions divided by groups of compounds. Spatial skills Stereochemistry, the study of spatial arrangements of atoms and molecules, comprises a substantial part in organic chemistry courses in general, and in the MCAT in particular. These skills can be acquired and ןצproved ver time, but still impose a serious obstacle for students. Therefore, practicing conformations and configurations is of serious importance.
