About MAP Math for 3rd GradeThe MAP math section for third grade is a computerized test comprised of 52 questions that include the following seven subcategories:
- Number sense – using mental math to count and make calculations
- Estimation and computation – applying basic math functions of fractions and decimals
- Algebra – solving equations with missing information
- Geometry – applying concepts in geometry, such as symmetrical and parallel lines
- Measurement – finding the area and perimeter
- Statistics and probability – reading basic graphs and charts
- Problem solving, reasoning, and proofs – word problems that involve multiple equations
By third grade, most, if not all, of the subcategories have been taught to your child. Like all sections and levels of the MAP test, the math section is adaptive. This means that questions either increase or decrease in difficulty based on previous answer choices.
MAP Math Scoring Students are scored using a RIT scale. RIT scores are used to track your child’s progress over a period of time. Because MAP tests are meant to track individual student progress, the scores are not meant to rank your child with other students. MAP scoring is a means of representing your child’s skill set and how he or she thinks mathematically. There are, however, average RIT scores that place students on a standard scale of students who have taken the same level test at the same point during the school year. For a more extensive explanation about MAP scores, visit our MAP Scores page.

Read What Other Parents Have to Say "I loved how quickly I was able to access the tests after purchasing the product and how easy it was to use! It familiarized my daughter with the format of the test, allowing her to feel calm for the test."
Margaret, MD (CogAT 9 Premium) - January 2015
"I really liked the assignments and course content. The material helped my daughter to understand nonverbal tests. The exposure to the test material was great, as it allowed my daughter to become familiar with the test. Her timing improved through the use of the timed test mode and she felt confident when she took the test. Both my daughter and I found the site easy to use and I would recommend this site to other parents of kids taking a gifted and talented test."

"The test at school (NNAT) was easier than the questions on the website. I knew my answers were correct for all the questions except for two of them that I found somewhat confusing. I had a lot of fun doing the test! (Kevin, 2nd grade)"
"Very helpful! Highly recommended."
