The OLSAT and NNAT tests have similar question types, although they are not identical. Both of them are used by numerous schools to determine which students will enter their gifted and talented programs. Since the two tests are similar, if you have finished one prep pack and require extra practice on certain question types, you can benefit from using the prep pack of the other test. It is for this reason that we offer a bundle pack of the OLSAT and NNAT. Start practicing today!
While the OLSAT test is comprised of both a verbal and a non-verbal section, the NNAT test contains only non-verbal questions. Therefore, this bundle is especially useful for children who need extra practice on non-verbal questions. In any case, neither the verbal nor the non-verbal sections are composed of questions your child knows from school and your child will have a much better understanding if he or she is not surprised on the day of the test. His or her score will reflect their progress much more accurately. Therefore, it is recommended to practice before the test.
Your first-grader is still very young and will require your assistance. Our pack is user-friendly, so a short while your child will probably be able to use it easily. It is highly recommended to allow him or her to work independently, especially on the non-verbal questions, and only ask you for help if they need it. On the real test your child will not have you to turn to for help; therefore, try to simulate the test as best as possible. Your child will be more confident when taking the real test if he or she has simulated it beforehand.
Start with the test your first-grader is taking, then move on to the second test. For instance, if your child is about to sit the OLSAT test, complete the OLSAT practice pack, solving all the questions and making sure your child understands them, then move on to the NNAT practice pack, focusing on the types of questions your child found more challenging on the OLSAT pack.
Before starting to study, make sure your child is well-fed and had a good night's sleep. These are both necessary to make sure your child achieves his or her full potential. Provide healthy food, such as vegetables, fruit, proteins and complex carbohydrates, which will give your child energy for several hours. Try to avoid sweets, which might make your child's energy and concentration levels drop after a short while. Getting enough sleep is also a key factor in your child's concentration. Remember children need more sleep than adults.
For every question your child solves under your supervision, make sure you know not only if he or she answered correctly, but how they solved the question. Sometimes a child might answer correctly but still not understand the question fully. Therefore, read the explanation with your child, preferably for every question. Our practice packs include a detailed explanation for each question.
Keep your child's spirits high. If your child believes in him- or herself, their chances will be much better. Do not worry if your child cannot answer every question correctly, make sure to praise him or her and reflect progress as you go along. Always keep in mind that positive feedback is more effective than negative feedback, so try to focus on the positive things your child is doing. Encourage your child to take short breaks, relax, and keep doing the things he or she likes even on those days you study together - it will help your child retain a positive attitude toward the test.
The night before the test, make sure your child goes to bed early - last minute revision might be less effective. Wake your child up early, so he or she can have a nutritious breakfast and get to the test with time to spare. Encourage your child to do his or her best. Good luck!
