Preparing for the ACCUPLACER can potentially help you reach your goals faster and save money on tuition. Starting your college, community college, or university program at a higher level can open doors. The fundamental English and math skills that are tested on the ACCUPLACER are essential to academic and career success in many fields. Preparing for the ACCUPLACER can help you do your best by reviewing what you learned at school and filling in gaps. Many students find that material that they learned in school comes back to them relatively easily after some practice. Our ACCUPLACER PrepPacksTM include study guides, hundreds of practice questions, and detailed explanations for each question. Test Prep Online's web platform makes it easy for you to study whenever and wherever you'd like, at your own pace.
Students most commonly take the ACCUPLACER either at the educational institution to which they have applied or where they have enrolled. If this is inconvenient, you can ask the educational institution if it would be possible to take the ACCUPLACER at another testing site closer to your home.
Because ACCUPLACER is a computerized test, you will receive your results electronically right after you finish the exam. Some colleges also provide a printed score report.
Once you have finished the exam you will receive an electronic score report which will display the numerical score from each section. Depending on the college, some counselors will give you a printed score report as well. Within ACCUPLACER Math there are three multiple choice sections: Arithmetic, Elementary Algebra, and College-Level Math. ACCUPLACER English has two multiple choice sections--Sentence Skills and Reading Comprehension--and the ACCUPLACER WritePlacer Essay.
The Score Report includes each section in which you were tested and gives you a numerical grade accordingly (on a scale from 20-120). The essay portion of the test is given a holistic grade from 0 to 8 as well as feedback on six important aspects of writing: purpose and focus, organization and structure, development and support, sentence variety and style, mechanical conventions, and critical thinking. Each section has different ranges of scores that are generally considered a Low Score, Minimal Score, Basic Score, Sufficient Score, or Substantial Score. See our guide to ACCUPLACER scores for more details.
Each college has its own score requirements and your guidance counselor will tell you which courses you may or may not take based on your ACCUPLACER scores. At many colleges, a minimum score on the ACCUPLACER Math and ACCUPLACER English sections are required for a student to start with college-level classes rather than remedial classes. See our page about how specific colleges, community colleges, community colleges, and universities use ACCUPLACER.
