Prior to reading the following advice, remember that acquiring techniques for studying is absolutely individual. Therefore, only through a process of trial and error shall you identify the tips that suit you most. That is why it's important to go through all of them and apply them separately on practice questions.
Tips before starting1.You must have profound knowledge of English usage, grammar and style. Use professional guidance, using an online study guide or grammar book, such as provided by the official GMAT website.
2.Plan your initial learning and practice according to subjects, instead of practicing arbitrarily.
Tips during practice3.Skip answer A. As it always repeats the underlined sentence, skip automatically to read distracter B.
4.Do not attempt to choose option A simply because it seems correct at first glance. Language does not have one sole option of sentence construction, and style and rhetoric can make a big difference between mediocrity and eloquence. This means that although the original sentence might seem like the right answer, a sentence with a higher level of expression might be lurking among the distracters to serve as the correct answer choice.
5.Eliminate false distracters. As there are 4 alternatives to the sentence, it is quite difficult to remember exactly which distracters remain as possible answers. This is especially true for advanced level questions. It is recommended to use your scratch paper and take out the wrong answer choices, or, alternatively, leave only the relevant ones.
6.Look for small details. Scan the sentence by types of words. For example, start with the verbs, and see if they are in the correct tense. Often our eyes simply omit mistakes, as our brain completes a partial or incorrect state to its correct form. A missing “s” could easily pass by the radars of our brain and be completely ignored.
